It will all be over soon....unless the governor gives me a reprieve

After many months of not knowing finally those with the power to destroy peoples lives...(DACOS Manning) have posted me. Now despite filling in JPA and selecting a negative choice of posting all those years ago of "2nd Line on Aircraft" and "Norfolk" I will give you 1 guess as to where I am heading in August.

Now despite pleading over the last 2 weeks and even finding a suitable placement for myself at the AWC at RAF Wadington (the building without any windows, where nobody wants to work). I was told I have two choices "like it or lump it". So I have had to go with lump it, but not quietly as I will go kicking and screaming into the darks of Norfolk. So hear my reasons for not wanting to go.

1. The house excuse and the fact that I can not commute the 90 mins everyday to work safely as well as returning at the end of a busy night shift the 60 miles home. Nor can I afford to live in and have the house, this would be to great a financial burden for me. Selling the house is not an option as I am currently in the middle of major repairs and it will be many years before it is ready to sell, let alone for a profit after the recent market crash.

2. With all the commuting that I would have to do training would suffer and then so would my work and possibly my social life. I am a dependant of sport. I use it to make friends, suppress the rage of work and provide myself with a better quality of life. Without it I am a no one! Also by working for BAE at CMU they have a clocking in and out system and require so many Manhours a week to under fulfil their requirement to the RAF contract and as a result do not openly allow people to have time of for sport unless the powers above tell them. I shouldn't have to get people to fight my battles for me.

3. BAE are openly recruiting the dregs of the RAF to fill the under manning at CMU as a result one of these cretins will be my boss.

4. I work volunteraliy every week with Lincoln Tri club, coaching the adults at Waddington, Tattershall Lakes and the Juniors for 2 hours every Friday. With a move to Marham I would have to give up an enjoyable part of my week. I may also have to give up the refereeing as the weekends would be spent trying to resolve a life I once had and volunteering would become a thing of the past.

5. I have hated the entire year I have spent at Marham on courses, detachments and secondments to CMU since Oct 2001 and do not wish to spend anymore time than I have to.

Ending on a good note though I am promoted....and in the next 8 weeks will find out if I was selected to attend IOT.

  1. Congratulations on the promotion and fingers crossed for the outcome from OASC. It's amazing the lengths some people will go to get out of an unpopular posting - even commissioning! :-)

  2. Mike, I was going to bang on about life in a blue suit, taking the Queen's schilling, this being the Air Force not the fair force or simply resort to HTFU; but instead I'll congratulate you on your promotion. Well done fella!
