With many of the RAF and Lincoln triathletes out at the weekend at Woodhall Spa Sprint including Paul Breeze, Baby Grant the dancing queen, most of RAF coningsby and nearly everyone from Lincoln Tri, either volunteering, refereeing, racing or watching. Some great results with Sam Wright taking a top 10 spot, and the dancing queen missing out by 8 seconds on winning his category. It was a great day. I have to admit afterwards I was a little pooped and decided to move the 100k bike and 20k run brick to Monday before work. Instead I opted for food and weights on the Sunday night.
Well 6am and I am out the door on the stead into the wind as the sun rains down on my back. I manage to pick a nice route which was hard at the start, going into the wind but also at the end whilst the middle was a chance for me to open the legs and see what I could do with the wind behind me. Well I was chin strapped at the end of it all. I only managed to do a 10k run of the bike before deciding that mid morning breakfast was needed and a drill set swim to cool down after napping on the bench in the garden. With the car broken I had two options for work, cycle or run the 6 miles in to work for nights. Well having spent so long on the bike that morning I thought it best to do a run and at least get the miles in even if it was little late for the brick. What a pleasant run to work, why I had not done it before I never know and a chance to run through the woods and on the country paths. However running back at 1am is not fun especially when your scared of the dark.
Well Tuesday was interesting as I was having more tests at Lincoln uni (5kTT run) and attending a practical nutrition course on resettlement. With an earlyish rise I went swimming a manged to do the 4k set Dawn had set for me 200m warm up 6x600m as 200 sprint into 400 race pace with a 200m warm down. Well after the 2nd my shoulders were loose and I was able to blast away comfortably and soon the pool cleared. One hell of a day training yesterday really meant an easier one today.
The 5k with Danny was a little strange. With no idea of speed I just had to increase it until I was comfortable and do a 5kTT. Well at the 3k I was still comfortable and increased the speed and once more at 4k. I was a little disappointed with the 21:24 but then no watches just gut feeling was a good indicator really I am near my max and still comfortable. The interesting thing is that my Hr never altered and the Lactate levels maintained 4 until increasing the speed at 3k where it plateaued again at 7.
After another day like that I managed to give myself a day of yesterday to recover leaving me today's 1900m easy swim and a weights session. Before returning for more testing with Danny Friday afternoon with a 40 min tt bike and a 8k run in the morning.
