About me

Since taking up triathlon in 2004 Michael has competed at all distances from sprint to Ironman. In 2006 after 12 months of recovering from a double cruciate replacement he decided to tackle his first Ironman. "The time was enough to qualify me for the ITU World Long Course Team". Later that year Michael travelled to down under for the first of his International Age Group appearances to date.

His passion for triathlon does not stop with just competition. He has progressed through the ranks of officiating to become one of the countries finest. With a dream of attending the Olympics in 2004 this seemed like the best way. In 2012 Michaels dreams come true with with inclusion as one of the 10 home nation officials. Since 2007 he has been regularly officiating on the British Super Series and ITU Series. Having been around the world as an athlete he now hopes to continue to do it as an official with his sights firmly on Rio in 2016.

His Passion for the sport also got him into coaching. Currently a level 3 Triathlon coach, level 2 British Cycling coach a BTF Open Water swimming coach and spinning instructor. He has also attended the 3 day Swim Smooth coaching course. Predominantly working with the RAF Triathlon Perfomance Squad and Triathlon England. "With over 8 years experience in coaching novices,  children and one to one coaching of experienced athletes I still get a great buzz after any session".

Over the years Michael has been recognised for his contribution to triathlon and military sport. His awards include RAF Sports Official of the year 2010, 2012, 2013 and the Combined Services Sports Official of the Year 2013.
