Another weekend of training and coaching over and only the Bank Holiday left to enjoy.. Sounds like every other year. Well not this one. After my NPLQ exam on Friday afternoon and an eventful evening out with the Lincoln Tri gang including Steve and Liz, Kyle and Pinky I was dragged kicking and screaming into the clubs of Lincoln by Judith, Maddy and Allessio eventually finding a bed to sleep after many hours up. This is the first time in a few months I have been up late, drinking and enjoying myself in a while...the single life
...sorry simple life!
Early rise on Saturday for the "Lincoln Tri Transition Training Day" at RAF Cranwell. This day has been planned for a few months now as the season starts to roll on into May. After last weeks event at Mansfield we had an idea of where to make some improvements across the board as well as introducing our newest members to the world of Triathlon. Being not much of a public speaker I really enjoyed the planning and was hoping that it would just flow naturally as well as provide a lot of information for all the athletes to take away and work on. Well after the first presentation on setting up transition and the Do's & Don'ts we headed outside into the murky weather for some practical on running with the bikes as well as mounting and dismounting work. It might seem basic for many people but I will say that even the best club athletes waste time in transition. Before long I had them doing the postman mount and some even had a shot at an explosive running jump...rather them than me, but it was great to see them progress.
After lunch Jon Riddell took them through race day prep and recovery work before returning them to my safe hands for a 90 min turbo brick session. Well it was a shock for many of them but afterwards even the newest members enjoyed this. We increased the intensity a little each time during the bike and runs from 70-90% as well as reducing the intervals. Having everyone there coaching as well really helped iron out a lot of the niggles people had but before long we were cooking with gas and it was easy to see who was going to be a contender at the David Lloyd Sprint. I will be sorry to miss this one but I am looking forward to watching everyone from the club go at it. Who is going to beat Steve Payley for this years club champion is anyone guess.
After spending close to 12 hours in 5 days in the pool either training or practising I decided to take the Saturday of from the pool and concentrate on my running. Despite a very bad toe this week I have managed to get an 8k easy run in Wednesday morning and an hour on Saturday evening after the training day. However I dd not realise it was deer culling season in the local woods so when I was approached in my Lincoln Coaching uniform by a man with a gun I was concerned especially as we had strayed through the woods and of the public path, he was not amused to say the least as we had scared away the deer...so shoot me!
Finally this morning after an evening of amusement and watching Ironman coverage from the past few years I joined the others for the wolds ride. After 40 mins riding to the start and 2 hours around the wolds hills and valleys we eventually returned back to Old Bollingbrook for hot soup and sandwiches. I did enjoy the ride and it gave me a chance to socialise with everyone. It may not have tested me in anyway but then I am here to coach as well as train...and trying to speak whilst your heart and lungs are burning isn't a good thing. Eventually after returning home it was 4 hours of junk miles, but I know that I felt good when I did jump on the hills. Hopefully I can string it together for Sunday and the 25.
And now the final shocker...no it's not that tomorrow I will be going into the lake at Tatershall for a dip but the fact I now know someone who has not seen any of the following films,
Starwars,
Indiana Jones,
The Goonies,
E.T.
Any Disney Pixar (Toystory, Finding Nemo, The Incredables, Monsters Inc, Cars etc.)
James Bond!!!!
You know who you are...be ashamed!
Please help educate society, stay in and watch films with friends and family. It's bad enough that your child's education is being compromised with the national curriculum but to live in a world not knowing about M, Q, Buzz Lightyear, Luke, Han or Chewy. Now that's deprived so by just putting aside 3 hours a week hopefully we will be able to get future generations to put away the games consoles and go outside and beat each other with sticks as they battle the evil forces of the empire whilst mastering the force.
Next Saturday I will be having a double bill if anyone fancys joining me...Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.
