Well all I can say is ouch! After a great weekend of training to flush out my trauma of Cranwell I started my NPLQ course at Waddington on Monday only to go and smash my toe of the steps performing a recovery of a conscious casualty from the deep end. Ouch indeed, this has now stopped me cycling until the swelling subsides and also running until I can wear shoes again... I was supposed to be VO2 testing tonight with Lincoln Uni on the treadmill but that is indefinitely cancelled but we are going ahead with next weeks bike testing for lactate and VO2. Lets hope I can stay safe between now and then. Oh well!
After an eventful session on Friday with the kids showing me all the running and swimming drills correctly I ended up swimming with Judith at David Lloyd on Saturday Morning. A 400m Warm up followed by 7 hard 500's with a minutes rest finishing on 400m cool down. Well by 6 I had decided enough was enough I think staying around the 7 min mark was good but still not fantastic really. I know the swimming is getting better but the truth will be in the testing at Cranwell for the RAF regional on 24th and 25th April. I should go close to 11 minutes for the 800 if not under.
Saturday afternoon I joined the rest of the gang setting up Mansfield Sprint Tri. This is one of the most enjoyable experiences I have done. It is great seeing everything come together on an afternoon especially when you are surrounded by good friends. However I will have to be careful as Maddy forgetting her shoes on Saturday after a long ride from Newark and everyone making fun of her wearing my clown feet whilst I walked about in my cardboard lined socks (chivalry is still alive) could result in a right pummelling on Wednesday as we continue to work out the knots in my legs.
After setting up Saturday all that can be said is it was all worth it come Sunday when we had the first Sprint series event of 2009 for One Step Beyond. Watching Jason (Lincoln Tri Juniors), Liz F, Liz W and the others is truly great as only in January I could see the start of a twinkle and already they are hooked. What a start and I can't wait for the David Lloyd Sprint on the 26th when more of the Lincoln Tri team come out to play for the club championships. These are great events and after working for over a year with the gang I can say if I was ever to be moved I would miss the girls first.. maybe Adam, Iain and the boys but mostly the race day atmosphere, after setting up and knowing that in only a few hours you will be clearing it all away.
So as I nurse my toe with ice and watch TV, remember it's only the beginning of the season and already I have my excuse.
