19/04/09 Lincolnshire RRA 25mTT

What a weekend, Friday afternoon I take out a 50ft conifer that was blocking the sun from the garden...Timber, before spending 4 hours writing risk assessments, NOP's and EAP's for Tattershall open water swimming and then catch up with Eastenders....Talk about busy. Saturday morning, with the lake open for swimming I venture down for 0900 and meet the other 10 guys venturing into the water for the first time this year. The numbers have swelled considerably after last year when we only had half a dozen turning up for a splash. Now it looks like it will explode especially when we move into the big lake in late May. After 30 minutes it was time to leave and estimating almost 1600m of swimming is great especially when you have the breakfast to look forward to afterwards. A few hours later and after the WI meeting I was dragged out to accompany Judith on her long ride. With dawn not setting anything for Saturday I just span along keeping her company as we clocked up 50k in 2hrs. I managed to keep the Hr below 50% whilst we took in the splendour of the Woodhall Spa Sprint Course, which many of the Lincoln club members will be racing on soon.

Well after having a double bill of movies at the weekend (Shaun of the Dead & Hot Fuzz) I rose for a mid morning TT in the Lincolnshire countryside. I'm not a TT or cyclist fan but I do enjoy spending time thrashing myself to near exhaustion on a bike in a head wind. A flat course with plenty of turns and challenges over the 2 laps. Starting at Number 42 of 70 is a good start especially since last years results were good meant that I had something to prove. Chasing Richard-Shakey/ Pinky- Sheldrake 2 minutes ahead of me was going to be tough especially as this man is now concentrating on cycling only this year but i thought I would at least give it a go.

Averaging 41k an hour, I was more than happy with the 1:05:05 I posted and with the handicap I am really pleased to have beaten him by over a minute. I am also pleased t have finished so close behind the winner who managed a 57. With so many fast boys out there finifshing in the top half was good and I am pleased to announce no women beat me....if any did I want a drugs test. This was a good days "riding like I stole it" and I am looking forward to my next TT in June back on the faster Sleaford course that I am more comfortable with. Vo2 Testing Tuesday and RAF Polo & Swim Champs on Thursday/ Friday so a full week of activity. This is the way to train boys...Role on the IS duathlon!
