Do I sound Australian?
I don't know I've never been!
Then why ask if I was a Australian!
OK rant about the dumbest nation over for now but I can guarantee the saga will continue for many more generations.
Well after an amzing relaxing weekend Supping beers, downing cocktails and dancing like Fred Astair in Vegas I had to start training again and what a week to come back to. Especially starting work at 4am most days. However it was only a 3 day week at work with 2 bank holidays and long weekends which makes being in America bearable.
Once you miss a session or two it is hard to get back into the groove again and this would be a hard week to keep motivated especially as the temp remained around the high 80's in the afternoon. Not being able to drive out here has been a god send really. It means I have to run the 5k to the pool/ gym and back again which is counting towards the miles as well as not wasting anytime travelling. I seem to be able to do 1 hours run to the gym (slight detours) and then a gentle 5k recovery after. Which I feel is helping me and I am beginning to feel comfortable again on the road, which has been my main worry ever since the fall last year.
Look out is all I can say with the swimming. The first few sessions felt bitty but now I can feel the flow and once again at one with the water. I don't know what the difference really is, maybe just relaxing away from the stress of work or maybe feeling the improvements Dawn has made with me coming together. She pointed out to me that I was not starting my catch early enough and the first part of the stroke was just wasted. I now feel the power I am beginning to generate and looking at times for 400 drop quickly has been a great improvement aid. I am looking forward to our next session in November on my return.
Cycling is hit and miss at the moment especially as all I'm doing is MTB. The are great sessions but I find that I just like the climbs and the going down or flat sections are not working me hard enough. What is really grinding me down though is the punctures, Another 5 on Friday puts that tube up past 10 now. Maybe I should buy another tube or just stop riding though thorn bushes.
Most of the training at the weekends is with Adventure Dave, one of our pilots who is interested in triathlon. He enjoys fell running and has dragged me along on some of his adventures as well as climbing, MTB and anything else that gets the heart pumping. Well yesterday we went for a little run only 10k up a hill/ mountain starting at 8000ft and rising to 11,040ft, Which is a pretty dramatic climb in places and with the thinning air as well as the heat you can feel every part of you aching from the start but the view of Death Valley from the top is worth it especially after 1:35 of running.
After all this fun we had to come and through a short snow storm in short shorts and vests is no fun. However grabbing everything you can just so you don't tumble over the edge keeps your heart pumping and with a few stops we managed to make it down in one piece in just over the hour. This crazy running is really starting to grow on me. Especially if we continue to go and see some of the most amazing sites around.
Product Review:
My Saucony Paramount's which I will have to say after a year of abuse are finally on their final legs, they are a good shoe but I am not entirely impressed with them. I have felt they are over hyped and priced for the return I have had. I do think they have performed well for me and lasted despite the constant abuse. I previously had the Pro Grid 5's and feel that these are a much better cushioned shoe and more durable.
