It all started yesterday really with the masseuse. After finding my knots and playing with them we discovered a rotation of the hip that had been causing a lot of my problems. Not to worry though as it is apparently curable and not contagious but possibly the answer to many questions and one I've been waiting to hear since February. Putting that to on side and possibly returning to it at another time. Today's sessions included a 4k swim (hard) this morning and then a 4:45 bike @70-80% this afternoon which I planned to set off at 11 for.
Here's where the fun begins. I was supposed to be joined in the lake at 0730 by Westy who eventually turned up at 0840. So after breakfast in the cafe, watching the Inter services DVD, The Olympics coverage and building his bike we get on the road for 12. Plodding along in the 40's before the turn and hills this is a comfortable ride and just what I needed as a final push. At the turn it was like hitting a wall of wind and the average speed dropped down into the low 30's. My energy is sapping and stomach is cramping but I just cant give in as already he has the victory at Nottingham under his belt and still reminds me he was taking it easy! On returning home I just can't wait to get on the sofa. I'm just dead after 4:10 of riding and 120 hard km's I just want my bed. Steak and chips for tea, a nice chilled glass of wine and a tub of ice cream will soon put me right again
Well I need to stretch now or else Maddy will have something else to prod on Friday. Tomorrow is the last big run, the longest since the injury and plenty of painting. Lets see if I can get the average pace under 4:30. I know its not especially fast compared to the Dazzler but to be able to maintain sub 5 for 30k is my aim in 14 days.
It's going to be close to the magic number, would you bet on me doing it?Talking of magic numbers I said 30 medals and we are pat half way with 5 more guaranteed tomorrow. I wonder what the odds are on that? Well done to all those competing in Beijing and good luck.
